Egsieker Auto Repair

I was going through some photos my Dad (Bill Egsieker) had and came across these photos of Egsieker Auto Repair. The photos were taken in the mid fifties for an article in an automotive magazine called Perfect Circle. The article covered several pages, telling how my Grandfather, Walter Egsieker, ran a very clean automotive repair shop. Walter, along with my Grandmother, Bess, lived behind the shop located at 8555 Lackland Rd. The building doesn't exist any longer since it sat on what is now the Lackland bridge crossing over Highway 170.

Walter's father started the business somewhere around 1910 and later, Walter took over the business. The original location is unknown to me, but I do know at one point it was on the corner of Lackland and Argyle, the building where Fav's was. Then sometime in the late forties or early fifties, they moved it to this location.

My Dad, Bill Egsieker, took over the business in 1969 upon Walter's death. Bess continued to live in the apartment behind the shop until 1975 when the state took over the property for building 170. Dad continued the business at several locations until he finally closed it in 1989 after having health problems.

To this day I occasionally talk with someone who remembers them and wishes they were still around repairing cars. I miss all of them, but it is nice to have these photos as a rememberance of a time gone by.
